DESCRIPTION
When connecting control systems (OT) to IT networks, we are combining systems with vastly different design and security properties to each other. Ecen though some progress has been made in recent years, the difference in culture, assumptions and requirements is still a major. Challenge, and in our work with providers of critical infrastructure we have encountered numerous examples where the resulting mess is substantially bigger than the sum of the issues both areas already have.
This presentation illustrates the special challenges on OT security and the differences to (and bad impact of) the IT approach using examples from the field, as well as outlining some approaches that can be taken towards meaningful security of critical infrastructures.
WHY THE COMMITTEE CHOSE THIS TALK
With a profound background in energy grid cyber security we look forward on Klaus take on the merge of standard off the shelf IT in OT and the consequences for security.
