DESCRIPTION
Modern vessels, especially Yachts, connected to the Internet in several ways.
This could be via SatCom (Starlink, VIASAT etc.), 5G, and shore-based WiFi to name a few.
With a closer look onto the IT and OT equipment on Board, you will discover several interesting attack points to it.
We will see an OT Network, with lots of stuff like engine control, HVAC, electrical generators and shore power connection, hydraulic systems and so on.
Then we have the wheelhouse, with a network only for the navigation computer, engine, ruder, steering, radar, GPS, and more interconnected to have access on all places to relevant information.
Weekly Electronic charts updates, remote maintenance, updates, patching etc. has to be addressed by the crew, mostly by the ETO, if present.
Last but not least we will have normal IT Network for normal office work, Crew needs Internet access, guest need Internet for their private use, WiFi all over the boat, Phones, entertainment systems and smart home controls, all is connected via network together and needs to be well secured against each other. What have a yacht with Automotive in common? Are there vulnerabilities shared? The answer will be given in the session
Targeting Super or Mega Yachts in harbors or offshore could be a new threat for celebrities, if private information’s from onboard are stolen.
